MINNEAPOLIS – Graduate forward Abbey Murphy of the No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned WCHA Forward of the Week honors for the third consecutive week, the conference announced Monday.
Murphy claimed her third honor in as many weeks after an eight-point weekend against Bemidji State. In Friday's contest, she posted a goal and an assist to help lead the Gophers to a 5-3 victory. Murphy followed with a dominant performance on Saturday at the Sanford Center, recording four goals and two assists to set a new career high for goals in a game. She also became the first Gopher to score four goals in a single game since Hannah Brandt did so on Oct. 10, 2015, against St. Cloud State.
The graduate forward continued to etch her name in the Minnesota record books, moving into second place all-time in career points with 253. Murphy passed Natalie Darwitz to move into third place during Friday's win before surpassing Amanda Kessel on Saturday.
Minnesota continues in-state play next weekend with a two-game series against St. Cloud State on Jan. 23-24. The Gophers open the series on the road at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center with a 6:00 p.m. CT puck drop on Friday before returning home to Ridder Arena for a 2:00 p.m. CT series finale on Saturday. Game one will stream live on B1G+, while game two will air on FOX9+.
