Morton and Gregory Combine for Shutout as Gophers Blank Red Storm 8-0

2/14/2026 1:01:00 PM | Baseball

DELAND, FLA. – The University of Minnesota baseball team continued their opening weekend with a morning matchup against St. John's University today, benefiting from a shutout performance from transfer pitchers Isaac Morton and Ben Gregory to blank the Red Storm 8-0.

Morton (1-0) started and picked up the win for the Gophers, going six shutout innings and striking out six. Gregory picked up the save out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Minnesota got the scoring going in the top of the second when Michael Lippe laced a two RBI double down the right field line, driving Ty Allen and Davis Hamilton across the plate.

Jameson Martin matched Lippe with an extra base hit of the day, tallying a RBI double and giving the Gophers an early 3-0 lead.

Scoring went silent from the third to sixth inning, giving Morton the chance to shine in his Gopher debut and picking up his first six strikeouts in the maroon and gold.

Easton Richter picked up right where he left off in the top of the seventh, launching a 355ft solo home run over the right field wall for his first of the season.

Minnesota tacked on three additional runs in the top of the eighth, with Jack Bello tallying a RBI on a sacrifice fly and Richter picking up his second extra base hit of the day with a two RBI double.
