Wu Claims Share of Big Ten Weekly Honors After The Johnnie-O

MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu was named the co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.
Wu collected a career-best score of 18-under-par (198) during The Johnnie-O (Mar. 9-10), tying the lowest by a Gopher through 54 holes since Ben Warian's performance at the High Meadows Intercollegiate (Apr. 15-16, 2024). He carded scores of 8-under-par (64) during the first round and 5-under-par (67) in the second and third rounds throughout the two-day event. Rudy Sautron of Nebraska also received medalist honors by recording a score of 18-under-par (198).
The win was Wu's first in the Maroon and Gold, becoming the first Gopher to win a tournament since Warian at the High Meadows Intercollegiate (Apr. 15-16, 2024).
Wu's first round score of 8-under-par (64) tied his career-best through 18 holes, tallying eight birdies. He picked up his fourth eagle of the season on the 14th hole.
The sophomore gathered nine birdies during the second round to conclude the first day. He recorded six birdies in the final round, ending the tournament with a total of 23.
The Johnnie-O was Wu's fourth-straight tournament finishing under par, including back-to-back events in the top five. He has registered scores under par during seven of his last 12 rounds.
His strong performance helped Minnesota finish with a team score of 39-under-par (825), marking the third-lowest score through 54 holes since 1994-95. The team tied for third place, finishing in the top three in back-to-back tournaments for the first time since 2021 during the Boilermaker Invitational (Apr. 10-11, 2021) and the Git R Done Husker Invitational (Apr. 17-18, 2021).
Wu and the Gophers now look ahead to the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on Mar. 23-24. The tournament will be held at the Wigwam Golf Club.
