Gophers Drop Extra-Inning Battle at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Minnesota Golden Gophers fell 3-2 in eight innings to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sydney Schwartz (6-8) was charged with the loss in relief for Minnesota (10-20, 2-3). Junior Macy Richardson got the start in the circle and turned in a strong outing, tossing six innings while allowing one run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were led by sophomore Jae Cosgriff, who went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. Senior Maggie Werner also contributed, finishing 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota struck first in the second inning, plating a pair of runs to take an early lead. However, Iowa responded by scoring three runs over the remainder of the game, including the game-winner in the eighth inning, to secure the 3-2 victory.

GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest-scoring inning came in the second, when it pushed across two runs.
» The Gophers left 10 runners stranded on base.
» Minnesota pitchers held Iowa to 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
» Gopher pitching faced 33 hitters, inducing 11 groundouts and eight flyouts while striking out three.
