Spanier Named to Brooks Wallace Award Watchlist

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – University of Minnesota shortstop Jack Spanier was named to the 2026 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award watchlist, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation today.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Spanier is slashing a .372 batting average with a 1.081 OPS after starting in all 11 games for the Gophers so far this season. Spanier currently leads the team in total runs with 17 and stolen bases with seven. Spanier has also shined from the infield this season, recording 15 putouts and 30 assists over 47 total chances for a .957 fielding percentage.
Minnesota is set to play the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tonight for another mid-week matchup. All the action against the Panthers is set to kick off at 6:05 PM.
