Gophers Fall 4-0 to Badgers in Series Opener

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Golden Gophers were not able to notch a run against Wisconsin pitcher Shelby Jacobson on Friday and were shut out 4-0 by the Badgers.

Sydney Schwartz (10-14) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (15-31, 6-10). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Badgers plated two runs in the first three innings and never gave up the lead. Minnesota managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Golden Gophers last got a runner on third in the first, when Tara Wolocko made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs. Wisconsin added two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

GAME NOTES
» Minnesota pitchers limited Wisconsin to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 29 Wisconsin hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and five fly balls while striking out seven.
» Schwartz led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 1 for 2.
