MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Matt Bingle has announced the addition of assistant coach Vincent Johnson to the Maroon and Gold coaching staff. Johnson will coach the horizontal and vertical jumps.

"Vincent brings an incredible combination of experience, proven success and a passion for developing athletes. His track record with jumpers speaks for itself, and we're thrilled to have him join our staff," Bingle said. "We know his expertise and recruiting ability will make a tremendous impact on our program and our student-athletes."

Johnson has made coaching stops at Nebraska, Kansas State, and his alma mater Alcorn State. At Nebraska, Johnson coached four Big Ten individual champions and 15 All-America jumpers.

Johnson spent 11 seasons at Kansas State as the sprints and jumps coach and recruiting coordinator, helping guide the Wildcats to a national championship, individual conference championships and numerous All-America honors.

K-State jumpers and sprinters totaled two NCAA titles, eight Big 12 championships, three first-team All-Americans and a 4x100m relay squad that placed eighth at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships. As recruiting coordinator, Johnson helped the Wildcats land a pair of top-10 recruiting classes according to Track and Field News.

Before entering the college coaching ranks, Johnson spent four years at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas, serving as an assistant coach and jumps coordinator and helping lead the team to four straight Texas Class 4A State Championships. He also founded and organized the jump-specific Texas 'FACES' Track Club.

Johnson previously spent one year as head coach at North Panola High School in Mississippi, laying the foundation for a new track and field program, and two seasons as an assistant coach at Nacogdoches High School in Texas, working specifically with sprinters and jumpers.

Internationally, Johnson coached sprinter Jennifer Madu to gold in the 100 meters at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships in France and Field to gold in the long jump at the 2011 Pan American Junior Championships.

Johnson also has collegiate coaching experience at his alma mater, Alcorn State, where he served as a graduate assistant and full-time assistant coach. After earning his degree in recreation studies, he served as a graduate assistant while earning his master's in health and physical education. He oversaw the jumpers and supervised freshman athletes, helping coach athletes to eight Southwestern Athletic Conference titles.

As an athlete at Alcorn State, Johnson won three SWAC titles—two in the triple jump and one in the long jump—and was named SWAC Most Outstanding Performer. He was also a three-time NCAA Regionals qualifier in the long jump.

Johnson holds a Level II certification from USATF in jumps and sprints and is a Hurdles and Relays Specialist through the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Academy. He and his wife, Tonoher, have two children, a daughter, Gili Mi'Joi, and a son, Nisbyc Nehemiah.
