Went a perfect 8-0 in three early season open competitions as a heavyweight • had two pins • crowned co-champion with perfect 3-0 record at Bison Open (11/11) with fellow Gopher heavyweight freshman Joe Nord • won first two decisions at Kaufman-Brand Open (11/18) before being forced to forfeit final three matches due to medical reasons • co-champion again at Worthington Open (1/20) with Nord, posting 3-0 record, including one pin.

A 2006 graduate of Albert Lea High School • head coach was Larry Goodnature • was the eighth-ranked heavyweight in the country according to InterMat • asics Honorable Mention All-American as a senior • two-time all-state selection • 2006 Minnesota State Champion at 285 pounds • compiled a 47-2 overall record on the season • finished second in state as a junior • three sport all-conference performer in high school • also competed in football and baseball • participated in the MSHSL All-Star Football Game last June.
