2007-08 • REDSHIRTED:
A 24-1 record as a redshirt included four pins, six technical falls and three major decisions • Pinned Augustana's Beau Severtson in the championship match of the season-opening Daktronics Open to cap a 3-0 weekend • Named co-champion with teammate Roger Kish at Bison Open after pinning Joel Thoreson and defeating NDSU's Ken Moenkedick • His 5-1 record was good enough for third place at Kaufman-Brand Open • Cruised to the 184-pound title at Husky Open, registering a technical fall over St. John's' Dustin Baxter in the final • Defeated a pair of Iowa wrestlers - Brodie Ambrose and Luke Lofthouse - on his way to first place honors at Flash Flanagan • Earned technical falls in each of his three matches at the Worthington Open • Finished season with another tournament championship, this time at the North Country Open, following a 3-0 performance.

Native of Alamosa, Colo. and graduate of Alamosa High School • Three-time Colorado state champion, once at 171 lbs. and twice 189 lbs. • The second-ranked wrestler in the nation at 189 pounds according to WIN Magazine and Amateur Wrestling News and is the nation's 11th-ranked recruit overall by InterMat • High school career record of 153-15 • Won Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award at both the state and regional levels (one of five regional winners nationwide) • Three-time All-State selection • Four-time All-Conference winner and letterwinner in wrestling • NHSCA Junior Nationals Freestyle Champion in 2006, runner-up in 2007 • Placed first at 2007 U.S. Wrestling Junior Freestyle Nationals this summer • Eight-time All-American in various national and regional competitions • Member of 2007 ASICS All-America Second Team • Also had distinguished football career during high school • Was four-time letterwinner, three-time All-Conference selection and two-time All-State honoree in football • Also set Colorado state records for tackles in a season (336 in 2006-07) and career (582) • Posted 3.8 GPA in high school.
