Twice a state high school champion in both singles and doubles at Minneapolis West High School, Ken Boyum played No. 1 singles and served as team captain for three years at the University of Minnesota. He emerged as one of the Big Ten’s top players, conference runner-up in 1948.
After graduating, Boyum became one of the top players of the 1940s and 1950s, winning the Northwestern Tennis Association Championships eight times between 1948 and 1959. He was National Public Parks doubles champion in 1975, over-50 singles champion in 1975 and 1979, and over-60 singles champion in 1985.
Boyum won the Albert Teeter Adult Sportsmanship Award in 1977, and was inducted into the USTA Northern Hall of Fame in 1981.
