His University human resources clients included the College of Biological Services, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the University Police Department, and the Department of Men’s Athletics.

In addition to nearly 2,000 U of M athletic events, he was actively involved in many post season events, including three NCAA hockey championships, and the 1992 and 2001 Final Fours.
Buell was also very active in the College Athletic Business Management Association, serving as its 1990 president and honored as its manager of the year in 1991. He received the Big Ten’s Digger Award, as well as recognition from a wide range of civic, athletic and governmental organizations. He retired in 2001.
