Colin Anderson
Men’s Track & Field, 1970-73
HOF Class of 2000
Freshman Colin Anderson set the outdoor shot put school record for his class in 1970, with a put of 56-7.
Two years later he won the Big Ten shot put ‘double,’ winning both the indoor and outdoor meet championships. His throw of 62-1 ¾ that year was the school’s second-best ever, the first 60-footer in Big Ten history and a conference record that would stand for a decade.
His senior year, Anderson was named team co-captain and won the Big Ten outdoor title.
He competed at national and international levels after graduating, winning the AAU Indoor National Championship in 1979 and a sixth-in-the-world ranking. He made the 1980 Olympic team, but the U.S. boycotted the Summer Games in Moscow.
Anderson was a Gopher track and field assistant coach from 1989 to 1995, and an inaugural member of the Minnesota Track and Field Hall of Fame.
