Chris Curry
Womens Swimming & Diving, 1977-1982
HOF Class of 1985
Chris Curry was the University of Minnesota’s first female student-athlete to receive a scholarship based on athletic ability. She added many more ‘firsts.’
In 1982 she became the women’s program’s first individual national champion -- in any sport -- when she won the AIAW National 3-meter diving title, and received the Women’s Athletics Department’s first Big Ten Medal of Honor.
By then, she had won the 1977-78 AIAW Region Six 3-meter title, adding the 1-meter crown the following year. Red-shirted because of a back injury in 1979-80, she came back to win AIAW All-American honors the next two seasons, placing third in the 3-meter in the AIAW Nationals.
At the close of the 1982 season, she was named Outstanding Senior Athlete.
