Bill Daley
Football, 1940-42
HOF Class of 2004
Running back Bill Daley has the unusual distinction of earning All-American status at two different schools.
Daley was an All-American at the University of Minnesota in 1942, where he had been All-Big Ten in 1941 and was again in 1942. He was also a member of the Gophers’ 1940 national championship team.
After the 1942 season, Daley went into the U.S. Marine Corps and reported to Ann Arbor, MI to attend officer’s training school. He decided to play for the Wolverines while he was there, and became the nation’s fourth-best rusher in 1943, averaging nearly seven yards per carry. At season’s end, he was an All-American there, too.
Daley is also the only player to ever win the Little Brown Jug twice – once playing for each team in the Minnesota-Michigan tradition.
