Eileen Donaghy won the 1987 Big Ten Cross Country Championship and posted six of Minnesota track’s top 10 times in the 10,000-meter run, including the school record.

The St. Paul Highland Park High School grad walked-on the Gopher team as a sophomore. Cross country team Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Runner, she was named second-team All-Big Ten.

Top Gopher finisher in every race her junior season, Donaghy won the 5K at the conference meet with a career-best 16:58.0, ninth-fastest in school history, and led her team to a best-ever third place. Fifth in the NCAA District Championship, she earned NCAA All-Region honors and her second team Most Valuable award.

A senior in 1988, she posted Minnesota’s best time in every race but one, and earned her second NCAA All-Region award, 15th in the district meet.

Donaghy’s 10K school track record, 33:31.96, placed eighth at the 1989 NCAA Outdoor meet, earning her All-America status. She also posted two top-10 finishes each in the indoor 5,000-meter and outdoor 5,000-meter.

Donaghy earned a degree in geological engineering.
