Women’s Swimming & Diving, 1974-77
HOF Class of 1990
Terry Ganley, Minnesota's first female to be named an All-American in any sport, did it four times, winning the AIAW honors in backstroke (1974), freestyle and individual medley (1975), and freestyle relay (1976).
She dominated Golden Gopher swimming, qualifying for nationals 21 times in eight events. At one time, she held every Minnesota freestyle, backstroke and individual medley team record.
A two-time Big Ten Champion, Ganley was named Minnesota's Senior Athlete of the Year in 1977, and won the Presidential Leadership Award that same year.
After graduation she stayed with the Gopher swimming program, serving as assistant to head coach Jean Freeman for 27 years and then becoming co-head coach with Kelly Kremer in 2005.
A legend as swimmer and coach, Ganley was inducted into the U of M Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1984, and the Minnesota Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame 10 years later.
