Jill Halsted Garver was MVP of the University of Minnesota volleyball team in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, 1978 through 1982.

A Cooper High School grad, at the University she earned All-Big Ten and AIAW All-American honors in 1981, and was an NCAA All-American in 1982. She received the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1982, for academic and athletic achievement.

After U of M graduation, she played professional volleyball for 10 years, in West German and Italy, and in the United States for the Minnesota Monarchs on the Major League Volleyball Association. She competed in doubles and in Pro Beach 4s.

Halsted Garver also was an assistant coach at North Carolina State, Concordia College (St. Paul), and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She was named Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

After retiring from pro volleyball, she joined the Minneapolis Fire Department.
