Sid Hartman is considered the dean of Twin Cities sports journalists.
Beginning with his first bylined newspaper column in the Minneapolis Daily Times on September 11, 1945, he wrote about virtually every significant sporting event and personality in Minnesota and the nation.
One of Hartman’s first beats was University of Minnesota sports, and one of the first athletes he covered was Gopher football player Bud Grant, who later asked his friend to introduce him when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
Hartman established himself as a legend at both the Minneapolis Star Tribune and WCCO radio.
In 2003, Hartman received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame.Hartman continued his weekly column in the Star Tribune and his Sunday morning show on WCCO until he passed away in 2020 at the age of 100.
