Bob Hobert was both an outstanding football player and an outstanding student. On the gridiron, the tackle earned All-Big Ten and All-America honors in 1956, playing alongside standout halfbacks Paul Giel and Bob McNamara.
Hobert earned Academic All-America honors that same year, and become the first Gopher football player to earn Phi Beta Kappa academic honors.
He was picked in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the New York Giants, and also played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League for two seasons, including the Blue Bombers’ Grey Cup championship.
