Mike Hohensee was an All-American quarterback at Mt. San Antonio Junior College before transferring in 1981 to the University of Minnesota, where he became the Gophers’ and the University’s Athlete of the Year in both 1981 and 1982.

In just two seasons, Hohensee threw for a record 4,792 yards and 32 touchdowns, adding individual records in passing attempts, completions and touchdown passes. He set records for consecutive 250-yard passing games (four) and 300-yard passing games (two). He three touchdown passes in 10 consecutive games.

Hohensee played professionally for the Arena Football League’s Pittsburgh Gladiators, the USFL’s Washington Federals, and the CFL’s Ottawa Rough Riders and Toronto Argonauts. He also played with the Chicago Bears during the 1987 season.

He became a coach in the Arena Football League and, two decades later, was its third all-time winningest coach.
