Steve Jackman, dubbed the “Fastest Man in the World,” was an 11-time All-American for the Golden Gophers from 1961 to 1963, during which he won seven NCAA and eight Big Ten gold medals.

Jackman won the 1961 NCAA title in the 100-yard freestyle, setting the U.S. record. He also won a pair of NCAA titles in the 50-yard freestyle in 1962 and 1963, and claimed a pair of titles those same years in the 100-yard freestyle.

Winning in relays as well as individual events, Jackman anchored the NCAA Champion 400-yard medley relay team in 1963, and the NCAA Champion 400-yard freestyle relay team in 1962.

Dr. Jackman was inducted into the U of M Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1986.
