George MacKinnon - M Club Hall of Fame

George MacKinnon
Lifetime Achievement Award
HOF Class of 2005

George MacKinnon, a three-sport Gopher star, earned three letters each in football and track in the seasons 1926 through 1928, plus a 1927 varsity letter in basketball.

Not bad, for a student-athlete who came the University of Minnesota only after two years at the University of Colorado!

MacKinnon graduated from the U of M Law School in 1929, and for five years thereafter was an assistant coach of the Gopher football team. He entered politics, serving as a State Representative from 1935 to 1942 and a U.S. Congressman from 1947 to 1949.

After serving as a U.S. Attorney from 1953 to 1958, MacKinnon began a very successful career as a consultant with Investors Diversified Services in Minneapolis. He later served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., and in other judicial assignments.
