Tom Moe, a native of Edina, Minn., was a two-sport Gopher star. On the gridiron he was a receiver from 1957 to 1959, leading the team in reception yardage in 1958, and team MVP in 1959.

Moe also played baseball from 1958 to 1960, compiling a .330 career batting average, with 26 RBI third on the team that won Minnesota’s second-ever NCAA national championship.

He graduated from the U of M in 1960 with a degree in economics, and then from the U of M Law School in 1963. He joined the Twin Cities-based Dorsey & Whitney Law firm, becoming partner in 1968. He became Chairman of the Policy Committee and managing partner of the firm in 1989, and served in those roles for 10 year. Under his leadership, the law firm grew from 327 to more than 600 lawyers, becoming the nation’s 25th largest.

In 1999 Moe became Interim Director of Minnesota’s Men’s Athletic Department. He was named to the fulltime post a year later and remained there until 2002, when Joel Maturi took over.

Moe serves on several corporate and civic boards, was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998, and was named 2000 “Lawyer of the Year” by Law and Politics Magazine.
