The longest-tenured coach in Gopher women’s basketball, Ellen Mosher Hanson set the school’s coaching record for most career wins, closing her career here at 172-125 (.579) overall, 52-38 in Big Ten play.

The Gophers had never posted a winning season prior to her arrival, but in her first season she led it to a 24-10 record and a playoff berth. Mosher Hanson led her team to three AIAW tournament appearances from 1977 to 1987. In 1981, her Gophers were nationally ranked with a 28-7 overall record, and played in the national championship tournament.

Mosher Hanson also served as coach of the USA All-Star team in 1976.
