Peter Najarian
Football, 1982-85
HOF Class of 2000

By the time Peter Najarian had finished his time as a Gopher, the linebacker had become the football program’s all-time leading tackler with 482. He also held the record for career assists with 245, and for solo tackles in a game with 20.

With what some called a nose for the ball, Najarian was the team’s leading tackler all four years he played, and earned first team All-Big Ten honors and All-American honorable mention in 1985.

Three times winner of the Carl Eller Award for defensive MVP, he also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the seasons 1983, 1984 and 1985.

After a senior year as team captain, Najarian was selected to play in the Hula Bowl, Japan Bowl and Senior Bowl. He played in the NFL from 1987 to 1989 with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Bucs.
