Jules Perlt - M Club Hall of Fame

Julius "Jules" Perlt
Distinguished Service Award
HOF Class of 1996

Gopher fans knew well the voice of Julius “Jules” Perlt, public address announcer at the University for more than a half-century for basketball, football, hockey and track events.

Perlt announced his first football game in fall 1928, and remained a fixture in Gold Country until 1987, behind the microphone for more than 400 football and 1,000 basketball games.

Known for his clever announcements of scores and players’ names, he aimed to make games fun for fans and players alike.

Before he was the well-known voice, Perlt was an outstanding Gopher gymnast – Big Ten champion in 1923 and 1925 in parallel bars; 1924 and 1925 in pommel horse; 1925 in horizontal bar, and 1926 in all-around champ. He led the Gophers to the 1926 Big Ten team title, too.

The avid pilot was inducted into the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame in 1988.
