Football, 1941-43
HOF Class of 2002

Minneapolis native Paul Mitchell graduated from Edison High School and then came to the University of Minnesota, where he starred as an All-Big Ten tackle on the Gophers’ 1941 National Championship team.

In 1943, he was voted team captain, and was also named the Gophers’ MVP. He earned All-American honors that year, and was invited to play in the East-West All-Star Game.

After a stint in military service, Mitchell returned to civilian life and turned pro. Originally drafted by the NFL’s Chicago Cardinals, he played pro ball from 1946 to 1951, first with the Los Angeles Dons and New York Yankees of the AAFC, and then with the NFL's New York Yanks.
