Martin Rolek - M Club Hall of Fame

Martin Rolek
Basketball, 1936-38
HOF Class of 1992

“Marty” Rolek followed Arnie Oss as the basketball program’s second-ever two-time All-American. Rolek received the honor in 1937 and 1938.

Tough? A 1937 Time Magazine article said, “The backbone of the Minnesota team is a Martin Rolek, a small and slippery running guard, who plays with several yards of tape wrapped round one of his feet to take the place of a bone removed from it after an injury several years ago.”

Rolek, one of the Gopher program’s first stars, was one of the reasons Minnesota advanced from ninth place in the Big Ten in 1936, to winning its championship in 1937 and claiming runner-up honors in 1938.
