One of the hottest prospects ever to come out of the state of Minnesota, “Pat” Sawyer was considered one of the best amateur prospects in the country by the time he came to the University of Minnesota in 1934.

He won two State Amateur titles (one at just 17 years of age), a high school championship, two State Junior crowns, a Resorter title, and two Pine-to-Palm crowns before he turned 20.

Here, Sawyer led the Gophers to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in 1934.

Sawyer also won State Amateur titles in 1930, 1932, 1936 and 1938, and State Opens in 1935, 1936 and 1956.

He was inducted into the Minnesota PGA-MGA Hall of Fame in 1992.
