Gifts of time and resources by Sage and John Cowles have benefited many causes at the University of Minnesota.

Sage Cowles received several grants for her work as a dancer, choreographer and performance artist, while pursuing her interests in social and educational causes. She served on several cultural boards.

John Cowles moved from Iowa to Minneapolis in 1938 when his family purchased the Minneapolis Star newspaper. After graduating from Harvard and serving two years in the Army, he began a 30-year journalism career in which he became CEO of Cowles Media Company. He served on the boards of many business and non-profit organizations.

Sage and John Cowles donated $1 million for the Gopher women’s softball stadium on campus, in addition to their other generous acts of support for the University and community.
