Vicki Swanson was a two-sport athlete and three-time letterwinner for the Gophers, lettering in volleyball in 1976 and softball in 1977 and 1978.

Swanson went on to become a member of the inaugural class of inductees in the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 1986.

As a pitcher, Swanson still ranks among Minnesota's elite in several statistical categories. She holds the school record for wins in a season with 27 victories in 1978, and is tied for first in shutouts in a season with 14, also in 1978.

In career earned run average, Swanson ranks second all-time with an ERA of 0.91. She is also third in single-season ERA with a 0.71 in 1978. She pitched 13 games in 1977 and 37 in 1978. She led the team in wins as well as innings pitched in both seasons.

Swanson also appeared as a hitter in 64 games in her two seasons. In 1978, she ranked second on the team in batting average, hitting .362. She also notched  five career home runs and 51 RBI.
