HOF Class of 2004

Arguably Minnesota’s best-ever steeplechaser, Don Timm won the 1971 Big Ten event title, setting a conference record in the process. He placed fourth in the NCAA Championships that year, becoming the first Gopher to earn All-America honors in steeplechase.

The two-sport star was also the runner-up for the Big Ten Conference individual cross country title in both 1970 and 1971. He was a member of the 1969 Big Ten champion cross-country team, and co-captained the 1970 team.

Timm was an alternate on the 1976 U.S. Olympic team, missing the cut for the steeplechase by a mere two one-hundreths of a second. His Olympic Trials time of 8:32 remained Minnesota’s fastest more than four decades later.

Timm became a teacher and coach at Coon Rapids High School.
