Men’s Hockey, 1950-51
HOF Class of 2003

Gordie Watters, a Winnipeg native, played Major Junior Hockey in Canada before coming to the University of Minnesota, where he played a single hockey season.

But, it was a great season. In 1951, Watters centered the team’s most productive line, which also included Cal Engelstad and Rube Bjorkman. Despite missing four games due to injury, Watters tallied 27 goals and 19 assists for 46 points that year, earning him All-American honors. The team finished 14-12, including a nine-game winning streak to end the season.

Instead of turning professional, Watters opted for medical school and became a pediatric neurologist.
