2024 Baseball Year in Review

Anderson John

>> The Golden Gophers finished the 2024 season with a 25-23 record and an 11-13 mark in the Big Ten. It was Minnesota's first winning season since 2019. 

>> Legendary head coach John Anderson finished his 43-year coaching career with a 1,390-1,018-3 mark including a Big Ten-best record 623 league wins.

>> Junior Connor Wietgrefe earned first-team All-Big Ten honors with a 7-4 record and 2.77 ERA.

>> Junior Josh Fitzgerald led the team in average (.360), slugging (.632) and on-base percentage (.467) en route to second-team All-Big Ten accolades.

>> Shortstop Jack Spanier was the only unanimous selection on the Big Ten's All-Freshman team after batting .361 in league play.

Anderson John

The 2024 season marked head coach John Anderson's 43rd and final year leading the Gophers. The Big Ten's all-time winningest coach finished with a 1,390-1,018-3 (.577) record.

Anderson has led Minnesota to 11 Big Ten titles and have made the NCAA Tournament 19 times. He is an eight-time Big Ten Coach of the Year honoree and was named Mideast Region Coach of the Year three times. 

Anderson's career began as a player for the Gophers in 1974 before he became a student assistant from 1976-77 and graduate assistant in 1978. From 1979-81, he served as an assistant coach before being hired as the head coach in '81.

Minnesota honored Coach Anderson's legacy on Saturday, May 11 by retiring No. 14 during a pregame ceremony.
