Chris Ashton has served as an assistant athletic trainer with the University of Minnesota and the Golden Gopher football team since 2002.
Ashton, a Wheeling, W.V., native, graduated from West Virginia University in 2000 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education in athletic training. While serving as a student athletic trainer, Ashton worked with all Mountaineer athletic programs including football, wrestling and baseball.
Ashton was familiar with the Big Ten prior to joining the Gophers, working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the University of Michigan football program from 2000-2002.
He received his masters' degree of science kinesiology from Michigan in April 2002 prior to his arrival at Minnesota.
Ashton and his wife Kayla reside in New Brighton.
