Jay Nunez

Jay Nunez is in his third season on the Minnesota staff serving as the Gophers' special teams quality control assistant.
He organizes and runs all facets of opponent special teams scouting, manages the specialsts and handles all other day-to-day operations for special teams. Nunez also assists Minnesota's offense with opponent breakdowns and other tasks.
Nunez was an intern for Minnesota during the 2011 season.
Prior to his arrival at Minnesota, Nunez served as graduate assistant and tech assistant at Pittsburg State. He worked with both the offensive and defensive lines at Pittsburg State and also led video sessions, developed game and weight room plans and scouted and assisted with recruiting.
Nunez earned his bachelor's degree (History/Government) and master's degree (Masters of Educational Leadership) from Pittsburg State, where he was also a four-year letterwinner on the football team.
Nunez captained the Gorillas as a senior and earned numerous academic honors during his playing career. He was a semi-finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2009, which is awarded by the National Football Foundation and is given to the American college football player with the best combination of academics, community service and on-field performance.
Nunez and his wife, Ashley, were married on March 10, 2012. They have one son.
