Kane Thompson joined the Gopher football staff in April 2014 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Thompson came to Minnesota after working as an assistant sports performance coach at Purdue from May 2011 to April 2014 where he worked with the football, wrestling, and the men's and women's diving teams.

While working with the Boilermakers' football team he was part of a staff that was responsible for the design of periodized training cycles, research, implementation and coaching of training programs for skill position players (2011-2012) and big skill position players (2013). He also worked with others to develop training recovery protocol routines and nutritional guidelines and meal planning.

Prior to his time at Purdue, Thompson was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northern Iowa in 2011 and was an assistant strength and conditioning coach intern at United Sport & Athlete: XL Acceleration in 2009.

Thompson played linebacker and safety at Northern Iowa where he was a two-year letterwinner. He also earned his bachelor's degree (2009) and his master's degree (2011) from Northern Iowa.

Thompson is a certified USAW sports performance coach and is certified in CPR, AED use and first aid.

Thompson and his wife, Brittany, reside in the Minneapolis area.
