Tia Jones joined the University of Minnesota track & field and cross country staff as the program’s operations intern for the 2020-21 season. Jones earned her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Political Science from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., in 2019. She is currently completing her master’s degree in Sport Management at Wayne State College as well.

During her undergraduate career, Jones held multiple positions within the Wayne State College athletic department. She served as an office assistant for internal affairs and compliance and worked as a front desk supervisor and weight room attendant at the college’s rec center and student weight room. Jones also interned with Sporting Kansas City where she assisted with daily operations duties of the Major League Soccer team and stadium events and acted as head operations tech during Swope Park Ranger’s club matches held at the facility. Her professional experience includes working as a counselor and director for Camp Legacy in Omaha, Neb., and interning with Special Olympics Oregon as an event coordinator as well.

Jones was an NCAA Division II track & field student-athlete, competing for the Wildcats for five seasons from 2015-16 to 2019-20. She competed in shot put, hammer, and weight throw and was a three-year NSIC All-Academic honoree. A national qualifier in shot put, Jones placed 17th in the event at the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.

Jones is a native of Elkhorn, Neb.
