Marty Sertich joins the Gophers as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026–27 season, bringing extensive collegiate coaching experience and a decorated playing career to Minnesota.

Sertich spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at St. Thomas, where he played a key role in the program’s rise at the Division III level and its transition to Division I competition. During his tenure, he helped guide the Tommies to a Frozen Four appearance, multiple MIAC championships, and recognition as the AHCA Division III Women’s Staff of the Year in 2019, while also helping lay the foundation for the program’s move into the WCHA.

One of the most accomplished players in college hockey history, Sertich won the Hobey Baker Award in 2005 at Colorado College, earning USCHO Player of the Year and All-America honors. He went on to play 10 professional seasons across the American Hockey League (AHL), Germany’s DEL, and Switzerland’s National League.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Sertich is the founder of Tradition Hockey, a development program that trains athletes from youth through elite levels. He has also gained international experience as a skills coach for the Chinese Women’s National Team.
