Nick Kavelaris

Nick Kavelaris joined the University of Minnesota women’s tennis coaching staff in 2016. Kavelaris spent the last three seasons as the assistant coach at Marquette University.
The Waukesha, Wis. native was a part of three winning seasons at Marquette. In those three seasons the team had a 37-31 record. In the last two seasons Kavelaris helped Marquette earn the No. 4 seed in the Big East Tournament and helped oversee Silvia Ambrosio, the 2016 Big East Freshman of the Year.
Kavelaris began his coaching career at the club level, where coached for six years in the greater Milwaukee area. He worked with players ranging in experience from first-years to those ranked in the state and region. Kavelaris was named a Certified Tennis Professional in 2010 by the United States Professional Tennis Association.
Before his coaching career Kavelaris graduated from Carroll University in 2007 where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in religious studies. He competed on the tennis and soccer teams while at Carroll. As a tennis player, Kavelaris earned four letters and was a two time captain. He started two years for the soccer team as the goalkeeper.
Kavelaris earned his master’s degree in mental health counseling from Trinity International University in 2013. Kavelaris is a part of the American Counseling Association and the Association of Applied Sports Psychology.
Nick has been married to his wife, Amy, since 2011.
