Gophers alum Titania Markland enters her first season as a volunteer assistant coach for mid-distance and sprints with the University of Minnesota track & field program after joining the Gophers for the 2018-19 season. 

A native of St. Mary, Jamaica, Markland returns to the Gophers following her graduation from the University of Minnesota in spring of 2018. Markland competed for the Gopher Track & Field team for five seasons from 2013-14 to 2017-18, ending her career as Minnesota's program record-holder in the outdoor 400 meters and ranking second in program history indoors in both the 400 meters and 600 meters. A two-time All-American and four-time NCAA Championship qualifier for the Gophers, Markland capped off her career by earning Second Team All-America honors in the 4x400 meter relay and Second Team All-Big Ten accolades in the 600 meters and the 4x100 meter relay as a redshirt senior in 2018. She served as a team captain for the Gophers for three seasons. Markland's experience also includes competing at the annual Jamaica National Senior Championships.

In 2017 Markland earned her bachelor’s degree from Minnesota with a major in environmental science policy and management, and now continues to study at the ‘U’ in hopes of earning her master of science in land and atmospheric science.
