Aaron Berens was hired in September 2018 as the Athletic Compliance Intern at the University of Minnesota and was responsible for monitoring all 25 sports and assisting with the daily compliance operations including recruiting logs, CARA logs, and compliance education. In August of 2020, Berens was promoted to Compliance Coordinator. In June 2021, Berens accepted to become the Assistant Director of Athletic Compliance. He is responsible for Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Women’s Novice and Varsity Rowing while continuing to audit and monitor recruiting for all 23 varsity sports. He previously worked with Men's & Women's Track & Field/Cross Country, Men's Gymnastics, Women's Gymnastics, Men's Tennis, and Women's Tennis. Additionally, he works with the NCAA to report end-of-year sport sponsorship.

Prior to working at the University of Minnesota, Berens interned at Metropolitan State University of Denver At MSU-Denver, Berens assisted the Director of Compliance with the National Letter of Intent Program, assisted with Financial Aid equivalencies, and monitored athletics events.

Berens received his Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University in May 2018. During his time at Western Kentucky, Berens attended seminars on Sport Law, and completed his practicum hours at MSU-Denver and the University of Minnesota. He also received a B.S. in Sports and Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching at the University of Northern Colorado in August 2010.

He is a native of Littleton, Colorado, and he and his wife Ashley have one son, Grayson.
