Alexandra Wulbecker-Smith, MEd, MA, LPCC, CMPC is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Certified Mental Performance Consultant who specializes in sport and health psychology. With a deep passion for helping athletes grow in all aspects of life, Alex strives to create a space where individuals can explore who they are in and out of sport to help them achieve their personal, academic, and athletic goals.  Her specializations include performance anxiety, injury recovery, confidence, resilience, transition and adjustment, retirement from sport, and leadership.

Alexandra is also the mental health therapist and mental performance coach for the USA Hockey Women’s National Team & U18 Team. She was a staff member of Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics Games in Italy where the Women’s National Team won gold. Alexandra also works with the local Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team, Minnesota Frost, as one of their sport psych providers.

Alexandra is from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy with a minor in Psychology while playing Division I softball for Northern Illinois University.  She went on to obtain her Master’s in Sport and Exercise Psychology (MEd) with a certificate in Sports Management from Northern Illinois, and her Master’s in Counseling (MA) with an emphasis in Sport and Health from Adler University in Chicago.
 
Prior to UMN, Alexandra worked as the sole Athletic Counselor at a Division I University in Chicago where she oversaw the mental health and sport performance services for all 15 men’s and women’s teams including individual sessions, team workshops and co-initiated the mental health protocol for student athletes returning to sport post-injury.

Alexandra has provided mental health and sport performance services to athletes of all ages including youth, college, professional and Olympic athletes. She also currently facilitates programming and workshops for teams, coaches, parents, and athletic support staff on a variety of mental health and mental performance topics.

Alexandra is a professional member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
 
Alexandra also has a background as a multi-sport athlete, coach and former physical therapy aide. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and dog outside of work.
