Douglas Goon serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Information Technology at the University of Minnesota, where he expertly oversees all IT operations for Intercollegiate Athletics. His leadership encompasses strategic development, robust cybersecurity measures, and comprehensive service desk support, ensuring seamless technological integration across the department. With over two decades of distinguished IT experience, Goon has navigated complex organizational dynamics, collaborating effectively under three IT directors and four athletic directors during his tenure with Gopher Athletics.
Before ascending to his current role, Goon held pivotal positions including Associate IT Director, Service Desk Manager, and Field Technician. Leveraging his extensive institutional knowledge, technical acumen, and strong relationships with coaches and staff, he has cultivated a highly efficient, responsive, and engaged IT department that consistently meets the evolving needs of the athletic program.
In addition to his IT leadership, Goon is the visionary Program Director for GopherEsports, spearheading a dynamic, cross-campus initiative to advance esports at the university. Through strategic partnerships with Recreational Sports, the School of Kinesiology, the Office of General Counsel, and the Office of the President, he has driven significant progress in establishing a robust esports ecosystem, even as local professional esports organizations have faced challenges. A proud Minnesota native from Minnetonka, Goon is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where his deep-rooted connection to the institution fuels his commitment to excellence.
