James Bain

- Assistant Offensive Line Coach
James Bain joined the University of Minnesota football program as an Assistant Offensive Line Coach in February 2024.Â
In his first season at Minnesota, the Gophers offensive line protected for a balanced unit (18 rushing touchdowns, 20 passing touchdowns) that averaged 26.15 points per game, rushed for 115.6 yards per game and threw for 222.15 yards per game.
Bain came to Minnesota from UTEP where he was the offensive line coach and assistant special teams coach in 2023. In 2022, he was a defensive analyst.
Prior to this time at UTEP, he was a graduate assistant at Northern Arizona from 2019-20. While at Northern Arizona, he worked with the special teams, tight end and running back units.
Bain played offensive tackle at Northern Arizona as a grad transfer in 2018 after starting his college career at Humboldt State. At Humboldt State, he made close to 30 starts at tackle and helped his team win the GNAC Championship with a 10-2 record in 2015.Â
Bain graduated from Humboldt State in 2018 with a degree in criminology and justice studies. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona in 2019.Â
