MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota junior Angus Flanagan has been named a Third-Team All-American by both the Golf Coaches Association of America and Golfweek.
Already recognized as a member of the Division I PING Midwest All-Region team for the second straight season, Flanagan is the first Gopher to be an All-American since Jose Mendez earned honorable mention recognition in 2014.
In fact, the last seven Gophers to earn All-American honors were honorable mention honorees. The last Minnesota golfer to be placed as highly as Flanagan came in 2005 when Bronson La'Cassie was also a third-teamer.
Flanagan is ranked 29th in the Golfweek Men's Collegiate Individual Rankings, as he posted a 69.33 stroke average through five tournaments in the fall season. He tallied three top-10 finishes including medalist honors at the Macdonald Cup while also placing second at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate just over one week later.
In addition to his scoring average, the Woking, England, native led the Golden Gophers this fall in percentage of scores counted (96.7), rounds under par (11), tournaments leading the team (4), top-10 finishes (3) and top-20 finishes (3).
Flanagan went 2-0 in the Big Ten Match Play event in early February before the spring season was halted on March 12, 2020, when the Big Ten and NCAA announced they were ceasing competitions and championships because of COVID-19 public health concerns.
