GOPHER WOMEN WIN GOLD COUNTRY SWIMMING AND DIVING INVITATIONAL

The No. 13-ranked Golden Gophers were paced by a pair of triple-event champions, sophomore Kay Christoferson and first year Jinny Smedstad. Christoferson won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.54), the 200 breaststroke (2:22.67) and the 100 freestyle (51.93). Smedstad placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.87), the 200 butterfly (2:08.57) and the 1,650 freestyle (17:18.40). Terri Jashinsky, Amy Mickschl and Jenny Hennen were double winners for the Gophers.
In diving action, senior T.D. Rowe advanced to the semifinal round before being eliminated in the prestigious All-American Invitational Austin Cup three- meter diving competition in Austin, Texas on Saturday. Rowe placed second in the three-meter open late Friday night with a score of 264.66 to advance to the quarterfinal. Rowe tallied a score of 426.90 in the quarterfinal, then 445.35 in the semifinal.
