The Minnesota women's basketball team set a school record for fewest points allowed in the NCAA era in a 68-42 victory over St. Louis U. in the Sports Pavilion on Wednesday. The Golden Gophers' (6-4) previous low for points allowed was 43 against Michigan in the 1982-83 season.

Minnesota used a 27-0 run in the first half to turn a 14-12 deficit at the 12:35 mark into a 39-14 lead just over nine minutes later. The Gophers finished the half shooting a blistering 64 percent from the field and took a 41-20 lead at the intermission.

St. Louis (6-2) continued to struggle offensively in the second half. A free throw by Minnesota's Jackie Tate gave the Gophers their biggest lead of the game at 68-28 with 6:40 to play. It would be the last points the Gophers would score as the Billikens closed the game with a 14-0 run.

Four Gopher starters scored in double figures, led by Erin Olson and Cassie VanderHeyden with a game-high 15 points a piece. Lindsay Lieser added 12 points, all on three-pointers, while Moneeke Bowden chipped in 11. Minnesota tied its season high with a field goal percentage of 55 percent on 26-of-47 from the floor.

St. Louis shot 33 percent for the game. Mandy Lueking and Christan Shelton shared scoring honors with 10 points each. Point guard Kara Wile, who entered the game averaging 10.5 assists per game, was limited to three assists on the evening.

Minnesota has a 15-day break over Christmas before opening the Big Ten Conference schedule on Dec. 30 at Indiana.
