12/3/1999 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Minnesota (2-3) tallied its final points at the 4:17 mark on a three-point field goal from Cassie VanderHeyden, giving the Gophers a 49-48 lead. Bradley (3-2) took the lead on two free throws by Sarah Sommer at 1:35, then hit 8-of-10 charity tosses down the stretch run to ice the victory.
VanderHeyden led the Gophers with a season-high 19 points, but the sophomore guard was the only Minnesota player in double figures. The Gophers committed 31 turnovers and shot just 38 percent from the field.
Bradley shot only 55 percent from the free throw line, making only 15 of 27 attempts. Minnesota, comparatively, visited the line just eight times in the game, making two, and going 0-3 in the second half.
The Gophers spotted Bradley an 11-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game, then used runs of 8-0 and 14-0 to build its biggest lead at 10 points, at 28-18 with 2:16 left in the first half. Two Bradley three-point baskets closed the margin to 28-24 at intermission.
Minnesota plays its fourth consecutive road game on Sunday, when the Gophers travel to face Wisconsin-Green Bay.
