Minnesota's Theresa LeCuyer led all scorers with 22 points, a career high. She also led Minnesota with seven rebounds. Stacey Thomas led Michigan with 18 points and was one of four Wolverines in double figures.
"We are disappointed with the outcome tonight," said Minnesota head coach Cheryl Littlejohn. "Theresa LeCuyer gave us a great effort tonight, but there wasn't consistent effort from all of our players tonight."
Michigan made eight of its first 12 shots from the field in the first eight minutes of the game, while Minnesota made just one of its first nine shots. Michigan extended the lead to 19 points on two occasions in the first half, but Minnesota went on a 14-8 run in the last five minutes of the period to cut the Wolverine advantage to 35-28.
The teams traded baskets to begin the second half, until Michigan went on a 13-4 run over a seven-minute span to take a 63-47 lead with 5:45 left in the game. Minnesota could not any closer than 12 points for the remainder of the game.
